How To: Application Installs

Introduction

WARNING: Application installs are the most dangerous way of getting free NX.

- Each installation package you download and launch contains confusing menus to try and get you to install additional software (toolbars, additional programs, games, etc)
- Programs are generally at high risk of having spyware injected into them to leech information about your computer files, your identity and your browsing/computer use history. This information is then sold to advertisers and whatnot.
- If you mess up during installation, you can risk infecting your computer with spyware!

As a rule of thumb, follow these rules:
- NEVER install on your primary computer.
- NEVER install additional options. Install the minimal amount.
- Make sure you know how to gain your credits - some programs require you to launch and use the program before you get the points. Others merely ask that you install and launch, or even just install.

As a side note, I do not approve of this method to gain NX. Here is a test I did:

Using a clean install on an isolated harddrive for Windows 7, I downloaded and installed ~20 different applications from each of the four sponsors. By the time I had installed the last application, the CLEAN install of Windows 7 was chugging so badly I immediately had to nuke and wipe the drive.
My computer's no weakling, either:
i3 550 Windows 7 64-bit 8gb RAM on a Sandisk 120GB SSD (6gb sata)

Only two installations registered and were paid to me (945 NX and 475 NX).

However, I did not go beyond installing and launching each program once. Probably not enough time to let them 'call home' and register that they'd been installed before I nuked the drive.

If you are going to do this yourself, use either:
- Virtual computer
- Loaner laptop from the library
- Clean installation of Windows on a spare harddrive
- Someone whom you hate
